WILDFIRE RESPONSE TEAMS
South Central Fire & Rescue Service provides rapid, effective wildfire response across Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset, Berkshire and surrounding regions. Delivering professional cover for rural land, forestry sites, agricultural holdings, nature reserves and large outdoor events at high risk of vegetation fire.
We can support local authorities across the South of England and our teams and fleet are fully prepared and available for deployment nationally if required. We combine robust off-road mobility, specialist equipment and highly trained personnel to deliver the same high standards expected of local authority fire and rescue operations.
4X4 OFF-ROAD FLEET
Our dedicated wildfire fleet of 6 purpose configured vehicles for challenging terrain and remote locations:
• Heavy-duty 4-wheel drive all-terrain vehicles, capable of traversing uneven ground, forest tracks, moorland and deep ruts
• High-capacity on-board water tanks and integrated pumping systems
• Low-ground-pressure designs to minimise environmental impact
• Fitted with high-visibility markings, emergency lighting and off-road recovery gear
• Fully maintained and tested to meet national fire service equipment standards
• Prepared for rapid mobilisation to any UK location when called upon
SPECIALIST WILDLAND FIREFIGHTERS
All our response teams consist of serving local authority firefighters, with additional specialist wildland training:
• Trained in wildfire behaviour, fire break construction and controlled burning techniques
• Certified in working within remote and isolated environments
• Experienced working alongside land managers, national park rangers and statutory fire services
• Knowledgeable in Purple Guide event safety and countryside fire regulations
• Fully compliant with current health & safety and operational procedures
• Accustomed to working alongside other agencies both locally and on national deployments
SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT
Every team carries a full suite of purpose-built wildfire kit:
• Wildland branch nozzles and adjustable flow delivery systems
• Fire beaters, rake hoes, fire swathes and hand tools
• Portable pumps, high-pressure layflat hose and foam application equipment
• Thermal imaging cameras for hotspot detection
• Personal protective equipment rated for vegetation fire exposure
• Communications systems for reliable operation in low-signal rural areas
